larch and granite landscape
Just looking for opinions on this image. Interesting or boring? Likes or dislikes? I took it in Alpine Lakes last fall a few minutes before sunrise. All comments appreciated. Thanks. (Pentax 645nii, 45-85 zoom, Velvia)

love the hues, just wish there had maybe been a few whispy clouds in the sky...

maybe crop out that big tree on the left....it really pulls my eye over there

I love the places you photograph, Ian. This might be the most beautiful mountain location in the NW, IMO, for anyone who hasn't visited. In this case though, the photo isn't really doing it justice. I like the soft light and morning hues, but the composition leaves me needing something more to invite me in. Some stronger lines, greater depth, clouds, a reflection, more trees, stronger foreground, something. It just seems a little scattered and the large slope at ULC reduces the impact of the background peak.

This is a location I've been trying to get to the last few years, what month do the larch start turning golden? I believe it's the end of september, but I'm not sure, I'm planning on heading up there this fall.

The light is beautiful in this image, but I agree with Marc, it's not doing this incredible location justice.

First week in October or last week in September is often best for Larch.

I'm voting for boring also, Ian. After that first shot you posted here you ain't getting off easy!

Anyone interested in going up there may want to get their permits ASAP....they go fast. They also make available 5 unreserved permits per day issued each morning when they open. I wouldn't advise the latter on a weekend. It's well worth the agony you go through getting up there.

You guys are awesome. I appreciate the candid remarks. I've got a few other photos from previos trips to the Enchantments that I'd like you guys to take a look at as well. I'll post them as soon as my limit allows. Thanks.

I'd love to visit this spot and agree with other opinions that this doesn't say to me what this has to offer.... keep posting !!
