Since this is my first summer actively pursuing photography I thought I might share 2 locations that look promising for nature photographers which I have found thus far. The first is the Saco Bog and Heath, which has 2 flowering plants blooming in mid to late May. Even if you are not into photography this place is truely unique.

Second is the annual blooming of the Northern Blazing Star at the Kennebunk Plains. This is a huge area and I can only imagine what it will look like covered in flowers. Kennebunk Plains happens in late August or early September. I have seen some local photos and it looks like an impressive location.

I personally visited both of these locations over the weekend. While the Kennebunk Plains could be considered "boring" until the blooming, the Saco Heath is worth the trip any time. I felt like I was in another part of the continent when I was there, as the topography is so different than Maine.

Fred,

If I have the time, think the plains look like a great location. I'll look you up if I go! Thanks for the tips!

Fred & Jim,

I have a place up at Old Orchard. Let me know when you're up that way and if I'm up there that weekend we'll get together.
