Water Rail
Water Rail (Rallus aquaticus) - Essex, UK

Canon EOS 1Ds2 + 600/f4IS + EF1.4x + EF25 extension tube, Gitzo 1548 with Wimberley Head WH2, WWS hide.
Manual exposure mode - f8, 1/640s, ISO 640, auto white balance.

Crappy weather at the weekend in Essex, so here's a picture from the weekend before. Another of this year's target species.

Hi Phil,

Good to see a shot of an elusive species.

In your techs you don't state you have used flash, but to me the image gives the appearance of being slighty over flashed  If you can tone down the "artificial light" look of the image I think it would look better.

Regards

Rob

No flash used, Rob; just sun light. I've posted it from my laptop as I'm having ongoing problem with Dell over a new desktop machine. The laptop is calibrated and I thought it looked pretty much how it looked in reality, but it has one of those glossy screens, which are pretty contrasty.

Great shot, Phil, of a hard-to-see species. There is a slight halo visible around the bird on my (CRT) screen.

Nice one, a busy bird. A bit more room on the left for me.

Great shot Phil. Love the pose and the colour processing looks superb. Agree with Tim, though a minor nit. I can't see a halo on my laptop, but there's definately some kind of compression issue that seems to be surrounding the bird. Blinkin' laptops
