Twilight Arch
A long exposure streaks clouds passing over one of the Alabama Hill's lesser known arches at twilight. A flashlight was used to retain a small amount of detail in the rock.

Thanks for looking.

I really love this image. The streaking clouds really make for me.

I'm not really sure that I'm digging that much motion in the clouds but I admire you taking the chance and going for it. Good idea on getting the subtle detail from the arch. Excellent scenery.

Nice shot, I would have left the arch black, but I really like the crazy moving clouds.

Would you still be able to tell how separated it was from the surrounding rocks if it was left in shadow also?

Nice job on the light painting...just subtle enough...the streaking clouds is different - made me think you used a lens baby... good work.

Fantastic clouds, Marc. You have a way with them that is such a distinct signature.

The little bit of light on the rock is a nice touch.

right now I'm n a bright lit room and it is meesing with my display and it looks almost black, while I have no reference to where the arch separates from the rocks in the BG it doesn't really worry me

Marc - like Enrique I have looked atthis photo on my computer at work and I can just barely see the detail in the rock. I really do not think you need to show separation from the surronding rock. For me this is a photograph about shape and color not what the arch and surrounding rock look like. The streaking clouds look great.

Marc,

What, competition to stiff up there in PNW? :-) just kidding.

Gorgeous sky and clouds. for me this is about shape and form and there is little, if any, detail I can see in the arch. It works well for me as it is, but can see what the attempt would accomplish and that would work well too.

Very striking Marc!

Marc the motion blur of the clouds and the great color makes for an eye popping viewing experience. I think you could flip a coin about detail or no detail in the shadows. I think it would work either way. I'd stick to your gut feeling on this one. It's never failed you yet.

I'm not sure if I like this photo or not, but it's an interresting experiment nontheless.
