I received a .icm profile from my printer and put it in to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color directory with my other profiles. But when I do a print preview (photoshop CS 8.0) and browse the profiles under Print Space, its not there.
Any chances it's not labeled in a way that you might recognize? Epson R1800 profiles are listed as SPR1800, for example - not exactly intuitive or easily located (SP = Stylus Photo, in case you're interested...).
One other possibility: does PSCS (8.0) look in the Windows directory for profiles, or in C:\Program Files\Common\Adobe (can't remember the rest of the path...)?
To make sure the profile gets installed in the right place, on your Desktop, right click the profile and from the pop-up menu, select "Install Profile".
If Photoshop is running when you do this, you will need to quit and relaunch for the profile to be visible from within Photoshop.
And as Les mentioned, the name that shows in the list might not be what you expected. Sometimes they are very cryptic and you have to figure out what the profile maker intended.
On that note, make sure you never rename a profile file (.icm or .icc). The file name is embedded within the profile and all kinds of havoc can ensue if the file name doesn't match what's inside the profile.

Nat - Your way of installing the profile is easier than dragging it.
