The Cloudland Journal is getting bloated with too many waterfall photos so I have decided to post a gallery of just waterfall images taken in Arkansas this spring. This is a non-flash gallery so things should load quickly. I'll continue to add new images as I get them.

Spring 2007 Ernst Waterfall Gallery

Tim,
The gallery looks great, and the thumbs all look good, but it seems there is a problem with the image scaling on some on the slides. Many of them are pretty "artifacty." I see several jagged edges and pixelization. It is most obvious in the Smith Creek stuff. Though you'd like to know.

Thanks Tim, way to make us envious that we do not live in the land of waterfalls.

Thanks for the info Dominic - I don't see any of that going on. I wonder what the matter is? Can you give me a specific image that shows this - I'll do some digging to see what is up...

WOW!!! What a stunning collection of waterfall images - just beautiful, Tim! Thanks for showing me what I've been missing all week  . It really has been tough dragging my butt to work the last two days. I leave the house around 6:30 with nice fog all around, no wind, and...well, just about perfect light and weather conditions :frown:. Oh well, maybe this weekend will be good.

Oh yeah, been over to Punchbowl yet? That is such a beautiful place to explore - a little tough at the end, but well worth the effort!

I've not made it to punchbowl yet this year and probably won't. I'm frantically trying to get a few new waterfalls covered for the upcoming waterfall picture book project and only have two more weeks to get it all shot! There are dozens of great compositions both up and downstream from the main waterfall there and I could easily get lost and spend a week on that little creek - I might even loose my memory, or at least fill them up!

I hear it is going to be bright, sunny, with lots of wind this weekend....

By the way, can everyone view all the thumbnails on your screen at once or do I need to cut back the number of thumbs per page? Lightroom can display up to 40 images per page and I cut it back to 30 but am wondering if I need to cut it down some more to 20 or ? Any thoughts appreciated...

This one looks like the most obvious example of the artifacting I see. It's very obvious at the left center where the water spills over.

This one, on the other hand, looks great.

On another note, I'd say go to 24 per page. I am on a 19" monitor, and I have to scroll to see the bottom row completely.

Thanks Dominic. That is kind of weird since Lightroom is only taking that bad one up from 400 to 500 pixels (the good one is at 500 pixels to begin with). I still don't see it on my screen but I may replace that one image with a larger one. Many of these were taken right from the Journal files that were smaller than I normally would put here - I'm just too lazy to go back and redo them all, but I'll start making them larger for the gallery in the future...

OK, I have reformatted the gallery for you guys with smaller screens - you may have to refresh to see it (if you bother to look again at all). Thanks for the feedback!

No problem on my monitor, they all look great Tim!

Tim,
I guess I came in after the fact. But they all look great on my monitor. Really great work! There are some really unique perspectives there.

Beautiful stuff Tim, good luck with your project!

The changes look great. I think the artifacting was actually a sub-standard monitor at work. At home the pics look great.

Dominic:

I only reposted that one image that you were having trouble with - sounds like it was the monitor after all, although I would have thought that to affect all of the images but who knows.

Just FYI, I have posted a few new images from my trips yesterday on page 4 of this gallery. I hope a lot of you were out today in the Buffalo area (early, before the sun burned things up), and look forward to seeing what everyone got. I stayed home and mowed the lawn and fixed the plumbing, and all day long I could hear the music of the waterfalls far below calling out my name...
