I'm counting the days until my first visit to Colorado on May 29-June 5.
In GOTG I plan on shooting on Rattlesnake and White Rock Ridge. Which ridge would be the better location for first light? I was also wondering if anyone has ever seen any rattlesnakes in the park?
My last night in Colorado I was thinking about trying to shoot sunset on Mt Evans. Would anyone happen to know how long approximately it would take to drive from the Mt. Evans summit to the Denver airport at night?
Any suggestions on a scenic route from GOTG to Mt Evans other than the interstate would be much appreciated.
I'd bump that time estimate up a bit, especially if you're not familiar with the road and it's getting dark - the Mt. Evans Road is more than a little narrow and winding. Also, sunset is 8:24p when you're flying back, and light will linger up there for quite a while. Just an FYI for your consideration.
If, given all of that, you can squeeze it in, it's a good idea...
Depends on how long you want to take to get from GOTG to Evans. Darren's suggestion could take about 3-7 days which would cover your time here in Colorado, but is awesome scenery going through all the major vistas of Colorado. A shorter route , taking about 3 hours, is to take Hwy 24 through Woodland Park, Hwy 67 to Deckers-Pine-Hwy285, then Hwy285 east to turnoff to Evergreen, then the backroad from Evergreen to Mt Evans. Another route, a couple of hours longer would be Hwy 24 to Hartsel, turn right to Breckenridge(over Hoosier Pass), go to south end of Dillon Reservoir, take a right to Keystone then proceed over Loveland Pass, then I-70 east to Idaho Springs, follow signs to Mt.Evans. The Hoosier Pass--Loveland Pass option is way more scenic with grand vistas, the WP-Deckers-Pine-Evergreen route is along creek bottoms with a few openings for distant peaks, and not nearly as eye-opening.
