Could anyone (Bret  ) tell me what time of year the wildflowers and cacti usually bloom in the Moab/Canyonlands area? What are the conditions out there at the moment?

Thanks!

I passed through town last week and there were lots and lots of flowers right around town, as well as along the Colorado.

Ok guys,

Game on!!! How about some more wildflower pictures anyone? Lets see our neighboring states wildflowers and more Colorado praire shots please. :wavey:
Those PNW photographers have been putting us to shame lately :jump:

I blame it mainly on Darren White. He has been a wildflower photo takin' animal these days. Here is another one if you haven't already seen it:

I'll be in Yellowstone and GTNP next month. So hopefully I will be able to come back with a few early season wildflower shots from there.

I also want to check out Boulder's open spaces 'soon' based on Michael Deleon's post a week ago or so.

Lets get ready to Rumble! Ok, Derek settle down. They are just wildflowers.

I'll be in DNM this weekend, hopefully I can come away with something good enough to post.
Either way I'll report on the wildflowers.
Around here (Craig/Hayden) the arrowleaf and lupine are just starting to pop - couple of weeks to prime time.
(This should probably go in the updates thread!)

I'll be heading out through Capitol Reef and Escalante this weekend, so if there's anything out there I'll try and bring something nice home in a photo and post it here.

Rene:

The wildflowers are blooming now and have been for 2-3 weeks. Certainly isn't a banner year for them but they aren't bad, either. The mules ear are extremely weak but the paintbrush and prince's plume are lookin' good.

Bret - thanks for the update.

I didn't go through Moab, but the area around Crescent Junction, which was quite nice in banner flower years, was pretty bland. This year looks to be a good year for cactus - if you go SOON! Claret Cup were in abundance from Grand Junction to Capitol Reef; Fishhook and other cacti were also in evidence in Capitol Reef. Mule's Ears were not too shabby, but in most parts weren't bursting out in great clumps, either. Desert Primrose was abundant.

It's been hot out there, so flowers are going fast.

I'm going to put this as a sticky for Utah Wildflower Updates.

Lots of wildflowers along the riverside walk in Zion. I'm no flower expert, but I think they are yellow columbines, maybe some monkey flower too.

Wildflowers in Arches and around Moab are essentially gone until next year. Prickly pear is still blooming here and there, and there are some nasty looking globemallow about. In Arches, there are a few mules ear plants still holding some flowers.

Island in the Sky is looking better. Princes plume, sego lillies, lupine, prickly pear are all looking good. Quite a few other varieties I am not able to identify as well. There are enormous patches of lupine along the Shafer Trail.

Hope this helps some of ya'll.

Adam, those sound about right for the Riverside Walk.

The high Uintas are peaking now. Lakes and meadows above ~10,000ft are just bursting.
