Today I discovered my polarizer was stuck to my 170-500mm lens! It was only two weeks ago that I put the filter back on the lens, and knew it wasn't cross-threaded. A jar opener type gripper didn't work, and my favorite camera shop couldn't work it loose either.
I came back home, rather discouraged, but wasn't willing to give up just yet. Recalling there was a thread a few months ago about filters being stuck together, I checked this forum for that posting. The saving grace was the suggestion of using an elastic band! I simply took a wide rubber band, slipped it onto the filter and voila...the filter came off effortlessly!!
I will be keeping a rubber band or two handy in my camera bag from now on!
I had this problem too and used a wide rubber band, just as you did. Then I bought a pair of filter wrenches but I haven't had an occasion to use them. I carry both the wrenches and the rubber bands in my photo vest.
