Bee take-off
Taking a brief respite from butterflies here is a bee at the moment of takeoff from a dandelion flower.

D200 180mm f25 1/250th sync. High speed flash approx 1/25,000th sec. ISO 100

Hello Clive,

I really like this high speed flash 'frozen in time' look. The angle of view is great, giving a dramatic feel to the picture.

Clive - astonishing :toast: :toast:

Just a small thing for you to bare in mind - the D200 is defraction limited to f16 - using f16 and below does affect sharpness - that's another reason this image is dammned impressive :wavey:

Best Regards

Andy

Hi Clive,
I've really enjoyed this series of high speed flash shots and this is another stunner , captured at the perfect moment imho , please forgive my ignorance Clive , but are you using a set or are these taken in the field??? , don't know that much about high speed flash photography.

Kind regards
Andy... :toast:

Andy A - Thanks for the pointer on diffraction. I found that f25 seemed to be the best balance between edge sharpness and dof. This shot is a fairish crop as well and in practice diffraction does not seem to be too much of a problem. I'll go back to my dof calculations and see what I'd lose at say f16 and do some more test shots.

Andy S - At the moment this is an indoor setup. I'm working on an outdoor version, but the complications of lighting etc multiply tenfold! I'm finding it hard enough in more contolled conditions
