I know most of you are a lot more experienced in Photoshop than I am, so that is why I am turning to the GD forum for info on this issue.

I am a very new user to Photoshop and I am having trouble saving my images with the same color accuracy as what I am seeing in photoshop...

after I am done saving my master image I then do my resizing and sharpening for web

here is what I am doing

Save As
copy
Jpeg
adjust file size to just under the 200K allotment
adobe rgb box is clicked ( I have tried it unclicked too)
and when I view it, the colors are not nearly as accurate or vibrant as what I see when I have the image opened in Photoshop...

any help here would be much appreciated.... thanks in advance
Darren

Darren, I'm not the most experienced PS person but in my workflow here's my sequence: optimize image as needed, resize to 72 dpi and set long dimension to 720 pixels, view at 100% and final sharpen to taste, convert to profile srbg then select "save for web" and optimize for file size 200K. Save the file and you're ready to post. I'm sure there are as many approaches as there are people using PS, this is just my normal web presentation process. Good luck! :wavey:

BTW, I haven't ordered the CS3 yet and my beta version has expired so I can't tell you where to find srgb at the moment.

Darren, I did my first save today using this method in CS3. That probably doesn't make me an expert, but I believe I recall that a web save will use web safe colors, which is only 216 if I recall off the top of my head correctly. As such, the color gamut will go out the window. I did think is was a reasonable facsimile of the image though. With the PS Elements 3.0 way of saving images, I did find I had to do additional level and hue/saturation adjustments after applying Marc's sharpening technique going from 1200 pixels sharpened to 700 pixels. I hope this helps in some manner.

Where would I find an option for SRGB on CS3????

as you can see from my post in ESS there is quite a difference in what I am seeing on the screen and what is showing up on the computer....

I tend to like my images a bit more dense, ( yes I used to work in a photo lab) but some like more shadows. so the first image you see there is almost how it looked in CS3 after I re did some levels and curves to get the density to my liking....the repost is how it is showing up when I post it online.....

Darren, I guess I'm a bit 'dense'. By that do you mean darker - which would make your quote of "BUT some like more shadows" confusing to me. The original post looks darker than the second. If by dense you mean more shadow detail visible and therefore brighter, then I can see your problem.

Regardless, that is a pretty big change. I ran into that problem posting an overly sharpened image on the RMNP forum today and fixed it with less sharpening and my first CS3 web save.

Darren,
I think the problem is that you're creating jpg images for the web in the Adobe RGB color space.
After you've done all your work in Adobe RGB and you want to create a web version, you'll need to convert to sRGB (Edit>Convert to Profile) then save as JPG. Adobe RGB images look pretty bad on the web because browsers are not color profile aware applications. sRGB will give you the best results.

One thing you didn't mention is if you're calibrating your monitor. That could make a big difference too.

Thanks Rod....this is a test to see if the sRGB worked.......

you can compare this one to the one posted in ESS
