Need for Rent-a-pond
Finally, after being wayyyyy to busy, had a little free time yesterday and drove down to Nisqually Wildlife Preserve. By the time I got there the clouds were dark, lighting poor, and the clear water areas were black and murcky. I resigned myself, to a no shoot event and set my camera aside to watch birds.

Finally, in the middle of the ugliest pond scum in the place, this beautiful male began preening for his sweet little mate. Had to snap him knowing there was no chance this piece would ever be framed. I am wondering if our rent-a-sky guy would consider creation of a nice pond?

Seriously, am wondering where the "nice water" places can be found in the Seattle - Olympia area. There must be something better than this.

We must have been circling each other, was out there myself for quite a while yesterday afternoon. Did you head down towards the creek? Lot and lots of Cinnamon teals down that way. Also heard rumors of several pairs of nesting Bitterns out there, didn't see any though.

Personally I think this is nice for what it is. The oof blades of grass on the right and left aren't doing much for me though.

Eric, I have a nice sharp lens. Don't know what I ever did on long shots before image stabilization. Doesn't the "L" on the Canon lens stand for "Lovely? or... maybe lug.

Dave, I left after about 1 1/2 hours. It was just starting to rain. Last year I shot this bittern from the photo blind on the south side of the preserve. Had a problem with oof on this one too with grass higher than my head blowing in the wind. I believe if I return, will bring some pruners to cut the grass in front of the blind. Still, enjoyed seeing the bittern. If I had a keeper on the wood duck, would have taken more care and cleaned it up better. That ugly water just isn't going to work.

I like that gorgeous wood duck. If you eliminate that ugly out of focus brown grass on the right, you have a great habitat image of this bird. Your bittern is very nice also, especially with the dark green reeds contrasting with the bird's body.
