I just received my first print from WCI and was literally blown away at the quality of their paper and printing. I also requested a sample pack of their photo papers and now I can't wait to get more images printed. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to endorse but I highly recommend using them if you're in the market for a print lab. Excellent customer service also.
I'm wondering if anyone else has a lab that they recommend? Let's praise them since without them some of us would have nothing to frame!
WCI is West Coast Imaging. They are located in Oakhurst and have an impecable reputation and are used by many big names out there.
I've used Calypso Inc. for a number of years now and have had excellent results and service from them. They recently moved to Santa Cruz. They also print for some big names like Charles Cramer. I've heard rumblings of poor standards and other problems, but I've been satisfied.
Lastly, another fine lab that I use to process my 4x5 film is PhotoCraft. They're a full service lab from developing, to scanning to printing. They're located in Boulder, CO and also have a fine reputation.
Congrats Debbie,
I have known rich and Susan at WCI for about 10 years now and have taken numerous classes there.
I was one of the early foks to get a portfolio on their website....if you look under "Featured Artist" and then got to "Past Featured Artists."
I also have heard rumblings amongst the users of the labs, but I figure the proof is in the PROOF
Get your identical Proofs made and then decide whom gave you better quality, service and price.
WCI has always done right by me so far.....
Doesn't hurt that they have moved now close to Oka's , one of my favorite sushi bars
Glad you are happy with your print!!! that's the main thing!!!
WCI has been great! I have been using their sevices for about five years and have always been very pleased.
Be sure that you order a proof print before committing to the final. If you are using their 'Exhibition Prints' service, get the proof, mark it up, send it back to them and then have them do another proof based upon your recommendations. While the proofs do cost extra, and more time is involved, you will be assured of having a finished print that will knock your socks off.
The folks at WCI are very personable and understand the needs of photographers. I highly recommend them.
