Yes, It was looking like it was going to rain all morning. I would like to get back up there when the weather clears a bit. That was my first time up to Mills Lake and I was very impressed with the scenery.
I have flextime working at Northrop. So I can take the day off every now and then as long as the work gets done.
But I have been doing that drive too much lately. I love RMNP and can't stay away! So I might have to talk my wife into moving a little closer.
We just got the annual pass to all the national parks.
Currently the trail is a real mixture of snow, ice, slush, dry, and rivers of water flowing down it in places. So you get just about everything right now - more snow and ice above Alberta Falls. I did it in standard waterproof hiking boots and it was fine. Although we didn't hit the trail until 5:30AM. In the dark it would be much trickier to see, navigate and stay 'on trail.' But it would be worth it for sure. My brother-in-law had a hard enough time waking up at 3:00 AM as it was. I wanted to spend the night in the car.

I was surprised to see the thaw kickin' in up at Mills Lake at ~10,000'. But It still has a ways to go.
Mel-
What was the trail like? Crusty snow & post-holing?

And one more from Alberta Falls while I was standing on wet rocks trying not to fall in as the water was rushing by:
