I have really given up on creating, developing and updating my current website, so am looking for alternatives as I really have no time to keep a site updated, nor do I want a site that's really out of date, otherwise it's not worth having really.

I am experimenting with jalbum and it's really raw and i've done nothing to it, but would appreciate any comments as to how browsers are handling the images and also the time it takes to load an image. If it's alright for the user, then i may develop it a bit more, but don't want to waste time in doing stuff, only to find it runs like an old dog!

If anyone's bored for 2 minutes, i'd appreciate some feedback :toast:

A couple of photographers I know use Clikpic and are very happy with the results. :wavey:

Graeme, I like it! I think the colour scheme works well and I like the general layout. Very easy to navigate around. I'm not to sure that I like the design of the main gallery thumbnails (open folders?) but I'm sure you could improve the look of the main page. The images took a little longer than I would like to load but this may be down to our pretty rubbish broadband we have here on Guernsey!

If it's any use to you I use Clikpic and have been very happy with it. Extremely easy to update and very easy to customize to ones particular tastes.

Best wishes

Thanks for the feedback. I looked at Clikpic but from what I saw one can only display images at 600px longest side? Is that the case or is there a way of customising it to suite? Ideally I'd like 720

I like it Graeme except for one thing - those root-level thumbnails are REAL small at 1280 screen res and still a bit small in 1024.

Once past them though everything looks great :toast: :toast:

Hi Graeme

You could try SmugMug

John Chapman uses SmugMug and I am always impressed with the look of his site (and the quality of the images of course...).

Take a look at John's site John Chapman Website for an idea of how it could look, although I think the gallery style can be customised to some extent.

I think this is a good option for having an attractive and easy to update website without the time consuming hassle of editting the HTML yourself.

PBase and other sites offer similar gallery services too so check out some others as well.

cheers

Sean

I think it looks fine apart from the gallery folder thumbs need to be bigger. I use Jalbum and think it's so quick and easy to use. I like being behind a camera and don't like being behind a computer screen for too long. I've got 506 images on my bird gallery at present and it just took 1 min 9 secs to rebuild the entire gallery. I use Dreamweaver to upload my site so never used that part of the Jalbum program.

Graeme, as far as I know the limit is 600 with Clikpic. I wish they'd impove on that as I too would prefer a larger size.

Chris - I love the look of your site and to be honest that's the overall look I'd like for mine one day. With my limited knowledge though I think I'd have to pay someone to produce it for me.

Another vote for Smugmug....

Hi Graeme,

I use coppermine and gallery2. Both easy to update once installed and if I can use them they must be simple! Both run off a database of pics and generate the pages automatically. Oh and the software is free...
