I'll be visiting the Fossil Beds for the first time this weekend. I'm looking for suggestions as to locations to shoot, especially at sunrise. I'm told Painted Hills Overlook Trail and Carroll Rim Trail both provide good views, but no specific info on whether sunrise or sunset are best.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Pat, the painted hills will be nice for both sunrise or sunset (depending on whether you prefer direct light or that pre-dawn/post-dusk glow).
You may also want to post this in the Pacific Northwest forum (PNWNP) to get some advice from the locals.

The area isn't very big at all. You can easily scout it in less than an hour. Just take a compass and look up the sun positition for sunrise and sunset to know where the sun will be and how it might fall on the landscape.
