I see the discussion of CS3 has emerged. It is timely for me. I'm on the verge of buying the PS CS3 (Extended Version). I've been told that my MacBook Pro (1 gig ram intel duo core) can handle it. And, I can upgrade to 2 gigs of ram.

Is it true. Can my machine handle the Extended Version of photshop? Is there a real advantage to having 2 gigs of ram?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tim Stenning, Forks, WA

Tim, the advantage will be in speed. The software will probably run OK but chances are it will need to use virtual memory (disk swap) when editing large files which will slow it down.

In my experience all the Macs I have used since the G4 Powerbooks have significant speed gains going from 1G to 2G. If you're planning to upgrade to Leopard when it comes out, I think you'll really need the extra RAM too.

Haven't tried CS3 yet, but I can report that CS2 on my Macbook Pro/2GB seems fully as fast as either of our Mac Pro dual-core desktops. And that's fast.
