I was up in Boulder yesterday for the sold-out PT show at the Fox Theatre, and stopped by Chatauqua on the way into town. Things are already looking pretty darn good, with the best perhaps a week or two away. Nothing special about this shot, it's mostly for reference, although I do want to mention that I kept the distant mountains blue in keeping with the feel of the day.
More importantly, Porcupine Tree was freakin' incredible, as always! If you like good, sometimes-heavy, hard-driving rock music with a bit of esoteric, "prog-ish" feel, check 'em out. I know there's some Rush fans who hang out here – PT is right up your alley.
What do you mean nothing special! The low angle and infinity focus on those flowers are fantastic. It looks like a LF with movements, rather than a 5D.
By the way, I just got my very own 5D this morning, now I'll be able to sit back and wait for that 1DsMkIII to be released.
Congrats Don! And for you and Tony: This was taken with the 24mm tilt-shift lens. Don, if you ever wanna borrow that or the 45, let me know. I don't use 'em that much.
I wish this was P' Tree's opening act - this is sooo much kinder and gentler than Three, a gang of misfits that included a dude who looked like he should paint his head blue and join blue man group, a Robin Zander wannabe who shredded his acoustic guitar strings while singing the end of the world or some other uplifting tune, and a lead guitarist decked out in his gramma's hair AND sweater! Actually P' Tree was pretty awesome and I still have G force marks from the volume!
Oh, yeah, the arnica bloom along 93 and the Flatirons is pretty epic this year!
I really like the pic, but mostly I'm wondering if any of you P-Tree fans are members of CARS (Colorado Art Rock Society, a very active prog fan club) of which I am a member-lurker.
Nice one Todd!, in my 3 years of living in CO I don't remember the flowers at Chatauqua being this good. My wife and I will be moving back to CO next month, but I may miss the flowers this year :(.
Hey Don, I think I noticed that name on a guy's t-shirt, and a Web site for coloradoprog.com. Hang on a sec......Yup! Just checked out the site, and that's your outfit. I'll have to spend a little time there to see what they're all aboot. (Canadian lingo)
Wonderful image Todd! I know what I'm going to be doing at least one morning this weekend!!!
My good friend and co-worker Steve was at the PT show also! He looked tired yesterday! Loved the show of course! Anyway, he is extremely active with the Colorado Art Rock Society, and also plays bass in a local prog rock band called Pindral. You should check them out sometime!! Here is Pindral's MySpace page.
Todd, thanks for sharing. In addition to the sky, I'd like to see a little more contrast in the FG flowers. Its looking a little flat to me. Nice comp and balance.

I was kinda disappointed in the wild iris. But the everything else is coming along very nicely. The next couple of weeks should be great.
