Meanwhile back at the Ranch
While Chuck was getting out & schlepping 1/2 mile down & up a steep climb to shoot Blue Hen Falls... I ( being the lazy bum I am sometimes--like the other afternoon)ventured all the way out to my front yard. But the long trip got me one acceptable shot.

I often post images here to get feedback from all you folks, not ones I deem winners. This is one such image. I purposely left some background out of focus. Does that bother anyone? I may go back & try it with everything in focus ( you can do thiat using the Helicon Focus Software that's available ---www.heliconfocus.com) but I sensed that if I did it would look too phony to those who know macro work.

Thoughts?

Ya gotta love spring.

Hey Jack, pretty nice! I don't find the background being out of focus bothersome because it's clearly intentional. At the same time, I'm not sure if the parts that ARE in focus are quite enough to hold my attention long term. Have to come back to this one a second time and see how I feel!

I do like the arrangement of elements though - that's quite nice.

Jack, This is very cool. The flower has incredible colors and you've captured them well. I don't have a problem with the back petal being out of focus. My challenge is that the color on the petal fades toward the top and it becomes less important. I might crop as much as 2/3 of that petal off the top. Also, the vivid green background seems to fight with the flower for dominance and there are some weird edge effects where the intense purple meets the intense green. Maybe less is more?

After such a difficult hike how did you have the energy to post this Jack  Love the color in this, I would stick with oof bg it is nice, like your comp as well

I'm viewing this on a lap top so take that in to consideration. As far as the comp is concerned, I like it. Personally I would leave it as presented.

Hope you didn't exert yourself too much on that looooong hike, Jack!

The image would work either way, but I do like it as presented here.

I'm with Josh, I like it as-is. Excellent technique with Helicon...the prints I've seen using that technique always look great when properly done. If I have any crit, it would be that the saturation looks pushed just a touch to hard. Burning in the corners a touch might work well too.
