Any thoughts ? Should you include a lightbox(image catalog) on your website ?

I recently revamped my website and I am trying to get involved in the stock image market in the near future. I have heard conflicting opinions on this and I am unsure of whether it is better to include only your best forty images on your website or include a page where you have a lightbox or catalog with a broad array of images that include the best of numerous places. I am only starting out in this business and I have been told in the beginning it is best to only put the very best of the best in a way that can be seen really easily and thats all. Thanks for any suggestions or advice !

By catalog, do you mean searchable image database? It'd only be worth your money and time if you plan on putting your entire archive on there to be searchable. It doesn't mean that you can't have your static html pages serve as your portfolio though if you so choose. But you gotta have more than just portfolio images if you want to have an effective searchable feature on your site. Otherwise what is the purpose?
