RMA bison update
I visited the Rocky Mountain Arsenal herd this morning and am happy to report that they are doing well. The three calves have doubled in size in two weeks - they now weigh approxiamtely 120 lbs. They will gain 450 lbs. in their first year. Two are thought to be males. The bison hang out near the release sight quite a bit, especially morning. There are some scraggly cottonwoods there and the grass is good from our wet spring.

Here's a cow licking her calf taken from my truck with a Kirk mount and D200/600mm lens:

(the other calf belongs to another cow and the beast in the background is a huge male.)

Sweet shots, Dave! These are my favorites so far of your bison series. It's nice to see that they are thriving out there. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a photo of a bison calf. They look a bit like lions, don't they? (Minus the mane).

That second one has a very maternal character to it. Great capture for the emotional quality alone - and a great pose by the mom, too.

Aww... those little ones are so cute! Don't think I would try hugging one though! Nice shots Dave, both of them.
