I'm wondering what software folks are using to create/manage their online galleries? In the past, I have used PS to create web-sized images and thumbnails, and then created new web pages using html. This works great for small sites (like mine: http://www.bruskotter.com/), but is especially cumbersome to update. I'd like to expand my website and move from having a gallery with 50 photos, to a true online portfolio with closer to 250 photos. Are there any inexpensive packages out there that simplify the processes of creating and managing large numbers of photos online?
I have used zenphoto (http://www.zenphoto.org) to manage my personal gallery (currently offline). At one point I had over 20 albums and 320ish photos. It was fairly easy to customize as I know a little CSS and learned bits and pieces of php just by playing around with it. So it shouldn't be too hard to get the colors/layout to match your site. Its a free program too and their support forums are pretty active and helpful.
Hope that helps and I really like your site, by the way
Thanks Eric, I'll give it a look! William, I want to show to others, but I'm hoping to find software that allows me to host on my site, instead of relying on a third party. Thanks!!!
I've kept a list of sites that have been mentioned recently: TLCsmugmug, impactfolios, webstudio4, foliosnap,
and now zenphoto.org and www.pbase.com and www.imagekind.com....I would enjoy hearing opinions about any of these sites. Tim Stenning, Forks, WA
Have a look at gallery 2 and coppermine gallery both are pretty easy to manage. gallery2 has a bit more community support though. Do mind that both require php and mysql
I use Coppermine for my online galleries. If you know a little HTML it's pretty easy to modify to match your web site. It is easy to maintain your gallery with Coppermine's many included features. Of course, it's free and public domain software as well.
The real problem lies in finding a web site host that will allow the use of the image upload features. I had a rather hard time finding a shared hosting service that allowed direct access to the server. Most web hosting companies don't allow direct access to the server and want you to purchase dedicated hosting services which is much, much more expensive.
Thanks guys! I'll poke around these and see which will work best for me. Tom, thanks for the warning--looks like I'll need to contact my provider before I make a decision on the appropriate program/technology.

Are you hoping to show your galleries to others? Or keep them organised for yourself.
Try www.pbase.com or www.imagekind.com. I maybe reading this wrong.
