first attempt at waterfall
Seeing all of your great images of Arkansas waterfalls inspired me to try it for myself. This was taken near Chase County Lake in the Flint Hills of Kansas.

It was fun to try and I have a lot to learn so comments are welcome.

6 sec. a f18 about 30 minutes after sunset

A few other shots fron the area can be seen here:

Thanks.

Great to see there's a waterfall in Kansas! There are some interesting areas in the shot - some nice details of the water as it cascades down the rocks - that would be fun to play around with in more detail. Thanks for posting!

Ken, I did a google search on Kansas Waterfalls once and had only four results! I knew there had to be more than four waterfalls in Kansas, 5 or 6 at least!

You did a great job controlling the highlights here, the after sunset 6 second exposure produced some nice results. You have good detail & sharpness throughout and the dof is perfect. I like the comp overall with the vertical flow of the stream cascading through the frame. This is a very good environmental shot of the falls, good start! :toast:

Nice pic, though I like a couple of the others in your gallery better. I never knew there were accessible waterfalls (besides the dam on the road to Strong City) out there.Care to share the location :) ? My family is originally from Cottonwood Falls, and I'll be out there for a little while on Sunday. My grandma died in April, so once her estate is settled, I probably won't head that way very often.

Rob, after a little more looking, I think this is maybe my favorite.

That's a great area out there around Cottonwood Falls, it's about an hour drive for me. Funny, I actually live on the "prairie" but I still have to drive an hour to find access to it. The location is no secret. Just walk across the dam at Chase County Lake and follow to trail to the left. You should be able to hear the falls if it is calm and if there is any water running. Hope you have time to see it.

Thanks Ken. It's been a long time since I went up to the lake, hopefully there will be time on Sunday and good weather too.
