honesty appreciated.

Its a pleasant image...but I'd hit this again with some killer color in the sky. That would put this one over the top.

Hi, Darren,
I like what you're going for. But the dark sky and dark green in the fg water make the green deciduous trees and the face of the waterfall look rather impossibly bright... It's not an ordinary scene with the moody dark sky, and I applaud your stretch into something a little different. It's just that apparent lighting contrdiction that gets me.

Great location Darren. I agree with Catherine about the light balance. There is something not quite right about the color too, at least on my monitor. It reminds me of some of my dad's photos when he takes a short-cut and uses the auto-adjustments for color, exposure and contrast in PS.

Hi Darren - this looks a bit desaturated in the reds/magentas department and maybe could use a bit more contrast: the conifers look somewhat light and muted.

Is this one of the falls on the Washougal? Believe it or not, I've lived my entire life here, and have never actually visited the Washougal - I've been meaning to do a Rock Creek/Washougal loop (actually tried a couple of times, but hit snow at the little pass).

Seems dark, the water is grey instead of white. Main issue for me is the sky. Dark and kind of brown in a un-natural way.... totally fixable.

I agree with Catherine, I couldn't find the best way to say it last night and now she's said it for me. This image gives me the feeling I frequently get from images of late, the saturation is a little too strong, it reminds me of illustration plates in old books, where one or two inks have overpowered or outlasted their companions. It's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, we're creating portrayals of what our eyes have seen, so there are no rights or wrongs. And, perhaps "photography plus PS" is a different medium from "photography with drakroom."

Like others have said, it is a strange feeling. I do sort of like that wierd aspect, but it just isn't pleasing to the ey like others have mentioned. I think maybe all it needs is an "auto levels" command to bring out the power of the water. Nice comp and shutter though.

thanks for the responses everyone....you all said pretty much what I thought you would....

this was nothing but a trail and error image for me...

1st. - It's a 7 image blend in CS3, then I did some funky lighting with the lasso tool and feathering on those middle layer of trees.....there is horrible purple fringe on the water edges and the bubbles in the pool.....I did some work with the gradient filter to darken the sky....

so pretty much I was just using it to practice some new CS3 stuff.....

one guy I sent it to said it was a "Wall Hanger".....well not in my house, thats for sure....

thanks for the honesty.....I really appreciate it!!!
