Dipper pair displaying
EOS20D, 400mm, 5.6@1/250, ISO 100, tripod, bag hide
Hi all,
Have been away for 2 weeks so unfortunately missed my pair of Dippers fledging, but went on Saturday and found them with their 3 young playing up and down the river - really heartening to see after their disaster last year (nest washed away in storms with eggs in). Even better was that they displayed and began re-lining the nest so I expect they may try for a second brood!
After reading about all the saddening/disgusting behaviour around Dipper nest sites in Derbyshire I thought I would show that despite everything these guys are still having some success down here in Devon - good on them!
On another note, I know this is probably just a record shot, but as I have ruptured my right thumb playing football and it is now in plaster, lugging gear around Dartmoor and then using it in a bag hide is tricky with just one arm so was pleased to get anything at all!
Apologies if I can't comment much - typing with one finger takes me a while!
Hi Mark. Sorry to hear about your thumb! Sounds painful. Great to see you are still managing these wonderful shots of dippers. I think 'a record shot' is a little self-depricating. Its quality and the behavioural posture is excellent. I must admit, I am not much of a 'birder' but I am fascinated by dippers. I was hoping to revisit the rivers of Derbyshire, but after all that has happened, I'm leaving it alone.
