Hi all,

I am curious,to enjoy Kelso Dunes and still have time to take photographys, can it be done in a long day trip from Los Angeles? Or should I just plan for an overnight camping trip? And also, does anyone know whether there are camp sites around there? Thanks in advance.

Chun, I would advise camping overnight at least. The trip is a long one and you would probably miss the best hours to shoot in. Staying there will give you some decent light to work with.

I think you can camp right at the foot of the dunes but I don't recall any types of facilities at all, ie. water, pit toilets, etc.

Usually the best photography and the best hiking, at least in June, July and Aug, is the morning so I would definitely camp out there.
