I will be visiting Colorado for a week on May 29. I was wondering if anyone had any updates on conditions on some areas that I will be visiting.
In RMNP I hope to hike to Dream Lake and Lake Haiyaha. Or is there still to much snow? Has anyone been up there this last weekend? I've seen the earlier updates posted.
Anyone been to the Maroon Bells or tried to get to the Crystal Mill yet?
I was planning on calling Crystal River Jeep this week but was wondering if anyone has been up that way yet. I see Kebler Pass is listed as open.
DarrenK went to crystal mill and Kebler this weekend. Looks like you'll have a good trip there with fresh leaves on the aspen.
Dream Lake reports have been that the snow is melting fast. Even in the winter its pretty easy to hike up there with just boots as it gets a ton of traffic.
Crystal Mill is open- Some serious firewood from 4x4 trail from pics last week.
Was just at Dream Lake RMNP yesterday, about 70% melted (lake) train is easy, just some packed snow spots on trail. Emerald Lake (further along) is fairly icy and wet, from talking to people headed down from up there.
Trail to Haiyaha has much more snow at the branch off from Dream and hardly any tracks from hikers- not sure if this helps you.
Saturday I went up to Bierstadt, which has somewhat hiking conditions similar to - albeit less extreme than - Haiyaha; there are still significant stretches of multi-foot snow drifts on the trail, melting fast and bypassable in some areas. Bring waterproof footwear, as the trails are often acting as temporary streams right now. Haiyaha is usually very under-travelled this time of year; the initial stretch from Dream Lake and then another a bit further on may be snowshoe-only.
