Andy posted a somewhat different view of this falls from his trip last month, and I wanted to get feedback from this version that I took last May, when I bushwhacked down there with Greg Lief. This view is obviously from the much-admired slide, located just downstream from the falls. It's a favorite image, though after reading reviews here for the last few weeks, I'm newly critical of my old favorites! In this case, the mossy branch hanging down in the top/center is suddenly more noticeable to me, among other things. So any comments would be much appreciated!

BTW, Andy mentioned in his trip report that sometime between when I was down there last year, and his trip this year, there was some sort of slide along the approach to this vantage point. It's a somewhat rough bushwhack, but well worth the effort. There's a complete discussion in the "Lost Trails" section of PortlandHikers.com if you're interested in going there and want to read Andy's narrative. There's also a trip report from a recent PortlandHikers visit to the "re-discovered" Middle Bridal Veil Falls, yet another signficant drop on this stream that had been all but forgotten for many decades. Amazing what's hidden in plain sight out there!

I've done that little scramble for this shot also, Tom. Nice work here. Nice composition. My only suggestion would be to tone down those whites on the right edge.

Great shot Tom, I really like this view as the stream leads the eye all the way through the shot. I was tempted to try this when I was there but I just had to jump in the water instead and before I got many more angles the camera had given up in the wetness! I think the tiny washout I encountered, in retrospect, was not actually on the route to the falls. After reading other descriptions, I think I descended the slope too fast and was supposed to stay up on the ridge until further downstream. I really want to return here and focus on the slides sometime soon, it's such a pretty section of stream.

I can see and appreciate your effort on the comp...but it feels like it's tilting a bit to the right though even though it is not.

Thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated! I'll rework this one a bit.

Andy, if you want to bag a first (at least in modern times), I'm fairly sure it's possible to reach the upper falls and slide from the highway bridge by climbing up to a bench above the right (west) shoulder of the middle falls. Don Nelson scouted it a bit, and was cliffed out, but that was just in the immediate area of the middle falls. Cool to (re)find this stuff after all these years of obscurity!

I agree with Marc, tone down the whites on the right a little and it will really help.
