I'm using two bulky, heavy and unmatched CRTs on my Photoshop computer. The one on the right is just a place to put PS pallettes and such, but it is annoying that the colors don't match - can't be done, probably because it is an olde monitor.
Prices on widescreen LCDs are coming down nicely and I'm wondering if a single widescreen would be almost as good in terms of viewing area as the dual set up. If so, the space and single calibration advanages would be worth it to me.
We use them. Our only beef is the relatively small vertical height for viewing vertical shots. That affected us financially, because in our experience clients buy bigger when they review larger size proofs. Easily solved with this, but it was an extra expense.
I'm using Apple's 30" Cinema HD monitor and I love it. The viewing area is 25 1/4" wide by 16" tall. I don't know if that size is what you're refering to, or if you mean a 42" plasma size. Even at this size, it's surprizing how much mouse movement you have to input to go from bottom right to top left. If you spend multiple hours working on your computer, the large size and high resolution takes away some of the eye fatigue we all experience from time to time.

I am currently using dual 24 inch Dell widescreens to edit. Plenty of real estate and the monitors pivot 90* to view vertical shots at large sizes. Just FYI.
I have two setups... one in my home office and one in the office at my store. At home I have duel 19"lcd's and at the store a 24" wide screen. I MUCH prefer the duel monitor setup. I have Breezebrowser on one monitor and PS on the other. My tool panels for PS are on the same side as BB so that the image is enlarged to fill the other 19. At other times if I working on my web site I have Dreamweaver on one and BB on the other so I can be choosing and moving images around with BB and building pages on Dreamweaver. That way I can have both programs at full screen and not have to toggle between them. . My plan at this point is to pick up another 24 or 23 Cinema monitor. That way I can have the best of both worlds and have a 24" widescreen for PS and a 19 next to it for other tasks like BB, web browser etc. I've heard that Apple is upgrading monitors this summer so I'm waiting for the next gen before making that decision.
I have not tried a 30" and might prefer that but might like better but suspect that the duels would still work best for me. I think it depends on your preferances, the programs you use and the way you like to work. If I had to have one monitor it would be a widescreen.

I'm also thinking of a similar monitor.
