This kills me. I recently bought a D40 because I didn't wanna spent $1400 on a D200, but at $800 I'd have gone for the D200. Welcome to the new world order, I guess.
Here's where it's $800, btw:

Also by the way, how do you make a word in one of these emails link to the URL, like so many of the cognoscenti do?
You gotta watch some of those low prices...most don't include the battery, charger, strap, etc, and when you buy all those things you're back up to the original price.
I just checked. Online retailers I trust (Hunt's, B&H, Adorama, Amazon (depending)) are still selling the D200 for a little more than I bought it for in the 05/06 Holiday frenzy. Even if it were selling for $800 now, I wouldn't look back. It's been worth having. Then again, I've had almost as much fun with a second-hand digicam I bought for $100. Dang, I could get it for $50 now. Sigh.

Like Pete, my POV is that if it's not selling for $800 at Hunts, B&H, Adorama then it's totally bogus. I would RUN from that place fast! No way it's honest.
I agree that you should be VERY VERY careful. Deceit in camera sales runs rampant. I would never buy new from a place other than B and H, Adorama, or a very few otjhers.
You might check out Ebay. I'd buy a good used D200 before I'd trust any of the canmera scammers.
Sandy - I don't know if I'd limit myself to only a "very few" others. There are actually quite a lot of reputable sites. I'd definitely, however, check ratings of the sites like they show on Amazon, CNET, MySimon, or the above Reseller Ratings that Richard posted. I've bought a couple of things from sites I had never heard of, but that had lots of good reviews (which means they might bo on your short list anyway, even though I hdan't heard of them). I was very happy with both purchases.

Wow, I just checked that review! I hadn't gotten that far in actually deciding to buy, but I had selected that site as a Favorite several weeks ago so I could easily find it again if I chose to take the plunge. Thanks, Richard, for the reminder to always, always check the $#*$'s out before buying!
I'd like to add that Broadway Photo is a bait and switch store as well. When I knew nothing about cameras I bought from them, then I was told about avoiding black market which I had no idea existed. So I called them back to ask what it was. U.S. or what warranty. They said something about well we can only give you that price for a non-u.s. warranty but it is the same thing. If it makes you more comfortable it'll be another 100 for the U.S. warranty. After I got the shipment, I still wondered if it was really u.s. warranty. But I didn't know any better to cancel the order as I was still young and naive back then.
Since then I've only ordered from B&H and Beach Camera.
