Seems like someone is always wondering what it is like in RMNP. This morning it was cold and snowing, but that is probably an exception from here out. Walked the trail to Dream Lake in my tennis shoes with no problem - just a bit of boot packed snow. The Glacier Gorge trail is also boot-packed, but if you get off the main drag (Lake Haiyaha) you'll likely need flotation.
The creeks are overflowing, and in my opinion not that photogenic for the moment. In the trees there is still a lot of snow and above treeline it's disappearing fast.
Here's the only pic from this morning taken above Nymph Lake and looking back towards Glacier Gorge and Longs. I missed the good light. Does that long tree-trunk in the photo look weird? Hope this helps.
Les - Just an FYI: I believe Trail Ridge is going to be closed quite a bit this summer. They're going to be doing some construction. I'll be Erik can chime in with more accurate information.
Absolutely sweet shot, David; outstanding comp. The tree works for me, mostly because the rock outcropping keeps the tree from splitting the frame entirely; if it ran through the entire frame, that would be distracting. The light is strong, imo; not brilliant, but subtly warm and, with the clouds, makes for a great image.
The ROMO park website has the road closure information. Lots of delays through the year, closed overnight Sun-Thu nights (10p-6a). Nothing that supposedly affects the road opening, though.
The tree is a bit strong for me, but not a deal-breaker on an otherwise wonderful comp.

I like the comp, the clouds, and the control over the light. It doesn't look too harsh to me. I don't really like the tree trunk. It splits the scene and draws my eye to it, distracting me from the glacier valley where I want to look.
I just saw this. Nice shot! I was just up there this morning myself. As far as TRR opening, from what I hear it should open at some point on Friday. I think they are a bit behind on road work so I don't even know if I should guess Friday morning or afternoon. Anyway, that's a very beautiful image David!
The light works well and clouds are great, however I think it would be a stronger image w/o the tree. I also think the left of the image, to the left of half mountain, is not too interesting.
