Moon rise over a daffodil field in Mount Vernon. This was taken on March 31st, the day before the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival started. I went out a day early to avoid the crowds. Couldn't find anywhere to park, so I paid a family to park in their yard, and just walked for a while until I came across this scene. I was really drawn to the irrigation troughs and so I waited around until after sunset. As soon as the moon popped out, I knew it was going to be something special. I had been waiting to shoot these fields all year.
The composition sure is strong and dynamic. As a matter of personal preference I don't like the irrigation trough, no matter how much it does add compositionally - to disruptive to the striking natural attributes of the scene. I'm sure most will disagree though and it shouldn't be taken as critique. It's technically a very good image.
I think the irrigation line is like having a tractor trail . I would really like this if the line wasn't there. Everything else about the image is real good. The sky and tulip field really make up for it. I commend you for being creative.
The world is full of "irrigation trough" and we can't do all our photography without them. The 'disruption" of the trough tells a story about how these flowers are grown. It's a beautiful photograph, with or without the trough.
