Gamma and color temperature

Hi there,

I was wondering what gamma people use when they calibrate their monitor? What is your preferred color temperature?

I have read that 6500 K and 2.2 gamma are the preferred settings.

The reason I ask this is because I usually calibrate my monitor to 6500K, 2.2 gamma. Yesterday I changed the gamma to 1.8 and when I looked at a post of mine, it looked way oversaturated - in fact rather garish. It did however not appear to make such a strong difference to the other posts.

Your comments are much appreciated.

Regards,
Christoph

You can think of gamma of a measure of contrast. The higher the number, the greater the contrast. So - images that look "right" at 2.2 will look dull at 1.8 and, conversely, images that look "right" at 1.8 will look over-saturated/contrasty at 2.2.
