Any rules about backpacking and camping on Roan Mountain areas, Jane Bald, etc.? I'm sure some of you folks know all about this. . .

Matthew, I've camped several times right up the hill from Carver's gap. As long as you are along the Appalachian Trail I don't think you'll have any problem. I'm referring to the bald opposite Roan Mountain. I've backpacked from Carver's Gap across and down the back side of Hump Mountain and to the highway that goes into the little town of Roan Mountain. We would hire an older gentleman there at a wrecker shop to drive us up to Carver's Gap and drop us off.

Matthew,

When are you thinking of coming up? Jerry and I have our workshop that same weekend, but I am thinking of going up a few days early and maybe backpacking out to Hump Mountain for a day or two. I guess I'll watch the weather. If not, I will head to Shenandoah for the spring fawns.

I'll probably drive up Thursday night the 14th and car camp. If I come with my friend Kerry we'll probably backpack and camp near the trail, if he can't make it I'll probably just car camp the whole trip (to spend more time shooting and less time camping). I can't really change the schedule as I am out of baubles to bribe my wife with.
