I camped on a snowfield near the base of Mt. Democrat last night. I didn't get any spectacular light (in fact, no color and no clouds), but I did get a few decent shots. Critiques are welcome. Any suggestions/tweaks?
I guess everybody's out shooting this weekend so I will comment. Nice work on both images Scott, I guess that is Kite Lake right? Did you snowshoe up or drive? Just curious was it cold or not to bad? I am jealous that you got out, I have not been upto the mountains since I drove back from Moab in December.
Jody, this is a small stream/lake that will eventually become Kite Lake. I drove until the road became an impasse. From there I hiked/postholed for about a mile. Yes, it was quite cold. I had a zero degree bag and was a bit chilled. It was about 20 degrees outside, but sleeping on the ice made it alot colder. If it makes you feel any better, I have to work sat-mon. By the way, your Emma Lake shot is incredible. I didn't bother hiking up there...I'd bet it's still frozen solid.
Scott, both are great shots, but the second taken at night is really cool! I agree with Todd you should see if the tent manufacturer would be interested.

Thanks guys. As for the first shot, I camped about 15 feet away from where this picture was taken. You can see it in the tent pic. As for the second shot, it features my Kelty Quartz 2 (a poor man's 4 season, 2 man tent). If I remember correctly, Kelty operates out of Boulder. I'll take you up on your suggestion and send it to them. Here's one more. It's not as good as the others, but it's different.
Jack: Yes, there was some good moonlight. Art, I agree with you, but how?

i'd try to edit this in Lab mode and see if curves could help you in the lightness channel, there might be something to try in the b channel too..., of course duplicating layers and playing in blend modes and masking off the ground could work,...there's always dodging-by hand!
