Another personal favorite from last year, taken from the shoulder of Vista Ridge road, about a quarter mile short of the trailhead. The standard drill here is to gallop down the trail after taking late afternoon shots up on the mountain in time for an early evening view from this spot on the way out. The shadows were getting pretty long at this point, but I sure liked the clouds. Comments and suggestions welcome - thanks in advance!

The clouds and lighting are terrific. My only suggestion would've been to move closer to the fall foliage and use that as the dominant part of your FG rather than the rock. Very nice scene.
Tom, I really like this. I disagree with the comment that you should have moved closer to the fall color. Had you done so it appears to me you would have lost the great line it forms from side to side. My only suggestion would be to crop a touch from the left so that the color bleeds off on that side. Great shot.
The photo really trails off on the right. It's the nature of the scene, I like the lines, but the whole right third has very little of interest in it. IMHO you could easily crop to square and still have a very nice photo.
BTW, does anyone know if the Timberline trail is mostly free of snow or not?
Thanks for the suggestions - very helpful, as always! I'll try the square crop, though that's something that I rarely use for landscape views. As I've said before, my Achilles heel is going too wide in attempting to capture everything conceivable, so a square image is a nice way for me to start getting more focused in these sprawling settings.
Mark, you can probably see this out your back window, but when I was up in your area yesterday, the snow at Elk Cove was clearly down to the treeline - plus, trip reports on Portland Hikers are reporting 1-3 feet of residual snow well below 4,000 feet in wooded areas of the Gorge. So I'm guessing the Timberline Trail on the north side is still mostly under snow.

I agree with mark about the FG, but that's a very minor nit.

Thanks for the feedback, all - much appreciated!
