Soldier Beetle
Hi Folks,

This is an early morning Soldier Beetle that I managed this morning whilst dodging the rain drops.

Techs:
Nikon D2X, Sigma 150mm macro, 055pro, ball head, MLU, Remote, 1/6sec at F13. Fill-in from SB600 @-3.0, Stofen.

C and C welcome

Kind Regards
Chris. :wavey:

Hi Chris,

A nice sharp image and lighting seems to be nice and diffuse too. The only thing is that it seems weird that the beetle is facing down - maybe this is the result of seeing so many macro shots of inverts facing up the stem!

Not a criticism - just an observation!

Hi Chris... very nice shot of the soldier beetle. Good depth of field. The water adds a really nice effect to the image. I see the Stofen is in action!

As the grass stem isn't tapering, rotate the image and see what it looks like. Weather is looking very changeable for the next few days but we might get away with an early morning on Friday. :wavey:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the comments so far.

I've reposted it the other way round but I prefer it the way I originally posted it, maybe because I know that is how it originally looked. Interested to hear other's opinions.

Elliot: Yep, the Stofen is in action, can't live without it now! Will have a look at the weather tomorrow and e-mail you to see what you want to do.

Regards Chris.

Yep, down works best. Can't escape the direction of the light and falling shadow.

A good close up with effective use of the flash and diffuser. :toast:

I'm for down too Chris... very nicely done, only minor nit is that I would prefer a touch more space in front for the subject to move into.....

Like it.. :toast: :wavey: :toast:
