One of my favorite Colorado hikes.
This was shot from close to where Jack Brauer took his.
What a difference a few weeks make.
Pano stitched (CS3 auto) from 5 vertical, 17mm @ f/22.
The monsoon rains started as the last 2 shots were taken and continued all the way to the trailhead. Silly me didn't bother with the rain cover on the LowePro pack. Sure glad the camera had some water sealing.
I'm looking forward to this too. I've been getting out a lot more with the camera around town and am ready to get the hiking boots on and hit the trails.
That is awesome, Bill! Wow it sure looks a lot better up there in the summer, huh? I'm looking forward to returning there later this summer (with a much lighter pack!).
As I mentioned in my other post, I think it will be a great wildflower season, with the snowpack lasting so long this spring.
Bill, I like the DOF. The stich also looks seamless. The lighting is a little flat, but the colors came out pretty well. It's definitely inspiring to head up to the mountains.
Nice work, Bill! I really like this image, it conveys to me so much of what is so great about the mountains. And I bet you can really print that sucker HUGE!
I won't have time for any long trips into the San Juans this summer, but am hoping to get in a weekend trip and some dayhiking. This is the perfect carrot - absolutely beautiful.
Don't know which pack you have, but I was less than impressed with the rain cover on my Orion AW. I love the pack, but I might need some remedial training because using the rain cover when we were getting dumped on in Escalante didn't work out so well.
Rick, I just came back from a two day overnight in the San Juans - Creede and Lake City. Top of Slumgullian has 2-3 feet of snow still. Wildflowers are poppin' and it was gorgeous every where. Should be nice in the Fall.

Rick, I was using a Nature Trekker AW2. After 2 hours of continuous HEAVY rain on the hike out, I was actually pouring water out of the interior. I'm sure that using the rain cover would have helped - a lot. Still, it was amazing how much water leaked through the seams. I need to take a shower with the rain cover and see how that holds up.
Paul, yes I plan to send this out for a big print. It looks great at 16"x28".

Love the details in this shot.
