I finally got off my boot and put together a simple website. Thanks to Alice Scroggins for suggesting Web Studio 4.0. It made is pretty easy. I tried to keep it simple and clean for my first attempt.
If you have the time, please have a look and give me suggestions, critiques, feedback, etc. That applies to images, format, style, navigation, anything. Good or bad, comments are welcome.
I plan on adding forward and back arrows to each image to make it easier to navigate through the galleries, but have not had time to do that yet.
Nice site Harley, and some beautiful images. I used Web Studio 4 for my site as well and have been pleased with it too. Nice and clean. The only suggestion I might have would be to make the "back", "home" buttons a little larger and perhaps closer to the image so the viewer doesn't have to search for them. Nicely done, congrats!
I don't know what the solution would be, but viewing the site in the firefox browser does lead to some overlap (though the buttons seem to be placed plenty close to the images. As would be expected, the images are wonderful, and the site is nice and simple, so it doesn't get in their/your way.
Good job Harley! I enjoyed WebStudio4, although I spent so much time designing the site I got burnt out. I had it almost finished and then decided on some changes and had to go through and change all the pages. You have some great images and they are well displayed. To answer Daniel's question, yes it does have the capability to sell images. Check out the website for details...www.webstudio.com.
Harley,
this is a clear and good looking site. viwed it in firefox with no problems.
you make wonderful photographs! (no wonder with those assistants!) Don't give up on LF film!

Simple and clean which is what you need to show off your outstanding
images. My first thought was the navigation buttons, but then re-read your post
and you'll be adding those. I'm sure you have more updates planned, but getting
those images posted was surely a priority!
Not sure what you have planned, but I'll toss out some thoughts:
1. You need to include copyright info. Not only a "copyright" insignia/name on each image page, but I would also suggest a statement somewhere; probably a link under the "about" section. ....all images and content on this website are protected by United States and Internation copyright laws..... No image may be downloaded, copied or used in any way without the written consent of the photographer...." yada, yada, yada... something like that.
2. On the very front page, I think a button that just says "Enter" would suffice. I'm pretty sure most surfers know when they mouse over something they can tell it's a link - worst case, they click the button.
3. Contact email. I can only speak from my own experience, but I removed all the direct email links on my site. There are spiders and robots combing the internet fishing for emails. Once your site begins getting indexed, you'll start seeing an increase in spam to whatever email address is on the site. You see now on many sites where the contact email does not contain a link and says something like. To contact Harly, send an email to the following address (replace "at" with "@"): Harlet AT harleygoldman dot com Now I'm not sure if it's really that critical, but you will get new emails...
I just have time for a quick look but the site is very clean and easy to navigate. What's more important is that you have some killer images there. I definately want to spend some time on it.
I very much appreciate the feedback and suggestions.
Johnnie, not sure why the contact does not work. Every time I click on the contact or the spot on the print page, it pulls up Outlook with the correct email address loaded in.
Lon, thanks for all the input. I think I will head over to MG's site and steal his copyright verbiage. That isn't a copyright violation is it?

Very nice site. I did run into one problem, I couldn't get to your contact information. I tried clicking links and got nothing.
