Sorry for the tardiness in getting this posted, I've been (still am) on the road...

We've been doing a lot of themes where the theme is a particular subject. This month, how about a theme focused (no pun intended) on a compositional technique.

June's theme is[b]layers[q/b], so let's see those shots where layers are a major element in the scene!

I'm glad you chose this theme. It reminded me of this shot from last fall that I'd never got around to processig from RAW. I'm actually not sure if this qualifies as I've only used one Photoshop layer .

Interesting change-up in the themes.

This is something folks have probably seen from me already, but the theme reminded me of it...

Rarely photographed mountain near Estes Park. Does this count as having layers?

Somewhere near Hwy 128

A Glen Canyon tributary. Email me if you want me to be more specific. This is a location I would prefer to protect from the search engines.

I'm sure I have some better one of this scene from last Fall (some day when I catch up ), but this is from 2 years ago.

Black Pool and Sinter abstract, Yellowstone NP

An interesting detail about the black pool. This feature was so named because it was filled with an algae or bacteria that gave it a black color. It was not a particularly hot thermal feature. A few years ago, the temperature in this pool increased dramatically, killing all the algae and bacteria in the pool and changing it from its black color to the brilliant blue you see today.

Great work everyone, particularly Guy and Scott Fricke!

Interesting info, Mel. I've got a shot of Black Pool from just before it changed; quite the difference!

Well, somebody had to post the obvious - Lower Antelope Canyon. Being a master of the obvious, it seemed appropriate I take one for the team.

On the subject of slot canyons, that's an absolutely tremendous image Adam!

Time to dig into last year's park pictures. This is a compressed view of the Sangre de Christo Mountains from San Luis Lakes State Park. The weather and haze made the mountains loom even before the telephoto kicked in.

Golden Layers of Light - Clearing Storm - San Luis Valley

Didn't get anything posted in the last theme. I got this on the 10th during a trip to GSD.

Originally, I was thinking of photographing the edge of my sandwich, but thought I'd spare you.

This is a shot of the Grand Canyon taken yesterday. I used a very tall tripod.

OK, I can't help myself - and it sort'a fits with the topic.

My wife and I both grew up in Southern California and moved out in 1985 because of the overcrowding, pullution, etc. So I took this picture to remind ourselves why we moved out (as if we actually needed reminding!).

OK so it's taken me all this month to get back to processing.... so at the last minute, here's my contribution to Layers... Zebra Canyon in May.

Great work everyone!!
