I recently sold my Sigma 150 as I had the chance to buy the Canon 180 at a really good price. First impressions after one outing a couple of evenings a go is that it's a real beauty of a lens and I'm really looking forward on getting a lot of use out of it. I took a few flower shots with it and then just as I was getting in the car I saw this fly taking up his bed for the night on a fern.
I have no idea what name to put to this fly as I've no insect reference books, if someone can recommend a good insect field guide I'd really apprciate it.
Paul, sorry no ID on the fly but superb clarity on the eye, would be interested to see what it would look like with a bit more dof but on reflection the current setup works to bring the eye into sharp focus.
Question - did you use flash or is this natural light. The lens quality looks superb
Hi Paul,
A very nice shot taken with a superb lense , very sharp , I agree with John , a little more DOF wouldn't harm , but still very nice.
The fly is a Anthomyiid ( ANTHOMYIA PORCELLARIS )
