Hey gang, Last week I had a Canon 1D Mark III in my grubby paws at Glazers Camera Supply. A SWEET piece of equipment!! It is much lighter than my current 1D Mark II and full of other sweet improvements. If you are in the market for a new high performance DSLR this just might fill your camera lust needs.

Whilst chatting with Brent the salesman he also mentioned that Canon did an indepth study of the dust/materials commonly found on their sensors. Amazingly enough a bunch of it was coming off of their own body caps!! So in response to this they are coming out with a new body cap that does not shed bits of itself as easily. Brent will call me when they arrive at Glazers and of course they will fit any current Canon EOS body so keep your eyes open the next time you stop by your favorite camera shop.

And no much to Nancy's pleasure I did NOT come home with a spankin new Canon 1D Mark III!!!! Sigh...................

Do you guys actually use the body cap??? I don't think I've used mine since I put the first lens on... I always keep a lens on my camera. The body cap has been sitting in my camera bag collecting... well... DUST! :jump:

Yeah, what's the big deal? In the las three years the body cap has been on my D2x exactly once!

This is not intended as a catty comment, by why haven't Nikon and Canon come up with a version of the Olympus dust removal system? I can't imagine that the Olympus patent is so comprehensive as to completely block similar technology from being incorporated into other makes. It just seems odd, given how effective the Olympus system is (...despite the ridiculoous "supersonic wave filter" name)

Interesting because I always store my camera without a lens in my camera bag. To each his/her own...

And Tom the Canon 1D Mark III does indeed have the same self cleaning feature that the Olympus cameras have.

Thanks, Rick - good to know. It seems like it will be a standard technology in all DSLRs in the future. I need to read my owners manual and figure out if the dust mechanism needs any special servicing when I get the camera cleaned. I'm not even sure where the mechanism is in the camera! Presumably, near the sensor.

I have a smaller Think Tank bag - so the camera fits better in the bag without the lense attached. It all depends what I'm doing or packing for.

Speaking of cool things, Rick and I met the Think Tank bag rep while at our favorite camera store. If you have the chance, check out these great bags. It's all we use any more. :jump:

Rick - stop that! you are drooling all over the kitchen floor! :(

Maybe we should start taking wagers on when Rick owns a new camera. BTW, my bag allows me to store my camera with the lens attached. I don't think I have ever used mine either. Maybe it's a Canon, Nikon thing.

Erik, I don't think you are gonna help me, are you? I spose Rick will wait until my birthday to get the new camera. That is better than getting a new me, isn't it?

That's a good way to look at it.
