Rewound film problem with Elan7

This post is going to make me look really dumb. I recently bought an Elan7, which didn't come with a manual.

Curious as I am, I decided to press each and every button to "reverse engineer" the camera. Unfortunately, one of the buttons happened to be the film-rewind button  and I ended up rewinding a completely unused roll of Velvia into the cartridge.

Is there any way I can pull the film out and use it?

Thanks in advance,
Ashutosh

What you need is a little device called a Film Retriever. They are about $5-10 at most photo stores (the ones that still carry them anyway). I just checked and B&H carries several brands.

Ashutosh, if you would like a manual for the camera and you live in the US I have a couple and would gladly mail you one. Just let me know.

You can download the pdf version of the manual here:

It's for the newer Elan 7NE but that camera is almost identical to yours.

Guy, Robert and Tom, thank you so much for your replies! Wonder what non-NPNers do when they have problems!

I'll look into getting the film retriever. About the manual, thanks for the offer - I actually found a PDF copy on the internet last night soon after I posted this topic.

Thank you so much once again!

A local photo lab might be able to pull that end out for you for free, if you ask nicely. (Seems a bit silly to pay the cost of a roll of film on a device to save one roll of film--unless you're going to be doing that a lot!)

The Elan 7 has a custom function which you can set so that the camera will leave a tail of film out after rewinding. Not something that is normally recommended, since it makes it hard to tell which rolls have been exposed and which haven't, but it does have occasional use. (I used to switch rolls part way through all the time in the old days, when cameras were wound manually, but I haven't done that in a long time!)
