Just got my 1D mklll this afternoon and found something called a USB Cable Protector in the box. How do you use this thing? Also what do you screw the knurled knob into?
Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.
Keith, thanks again for your help! I've gone to the site but the audio is really fried on the video you mentioned. I was able to see how the cable protector works though from the video. It's also probably on one of the discs they sent with the camera but I haven't had time to play with things yet. It is curious thought that Canon makes the 1D Mk lll which takes 1 battery and sends a charger that charges two. Then they sell the 5D which many or most people will buy with the optional battery grip and it ships with a charger that only takes 1 battery. Guess that insures you buy the optional charger. Aahhhh the marketers strike again!!!
Buck, I got mine from B&H. I've purchased camera gear from them for over 20 years. NEVER take what you see on their web page at face value, about items being backordered. CALL! You're on the east coast so calling them at opening time shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'd keep checking every morning first thing. I called when they first came off break and they said they wouldn't have them until June. Reading between the lines I called at their opening time on June 1st. The rest is history, as they say.

Thanks Richard
Three months later and I finally followed your advice. It worked. I just got the message from B & H that the mark III has shipped.
I sure hope I'm not afflicted by the infamous AF problem. How do you like your mark III?
Hey Buck,
Congrats on your new Mklll ! I'm ashamed to say that I really haven't had much time to work with it. I'm leaving for Yellowstone NP early in the morning for a 2 week shooting trip so that should tell the tail. I've been watching Rob Galbraith's site and hoping that the new Beta firmware gets released so that I can use it on this trip. I also read, on Canon's European CPN site that some of the AF problems may be due to the adjustable sensitivity settings for the AF being incorrectly set for whatever the given subject matter is. Here are the links to the two sites I mentioned. And enjoy your Mklll

There are 12 videos listed. Click on the one called "Recording & Storage". It shows how to use the USB cable protector.
The relevant section is about 2/3 of the way through the video.
Where'd you get it? They're still back-ordered at B&H.
