Hi folks. It has been awhile since I last posted. Been out enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having. Getting a bit warm though and the skeeters are starting to show up in the high country now.

Here's a little scene I shot after work on Monday. It was all in the shade so there really isn't any spectacular lighting. I did some touch-up work in CS2 to bring out and put emphasis on the fg leafs. My wife and I are simply amazed at the vibrant greens and reds in the leafs and tree bark up in the high country right now. The aspen leafs are just as vibrant now as are in the fall, but green. We've never really experienced the eastern sierra at this time of year. So with that in mind I wanted to showcase the vibrant green color of the fg leafs which the new growth has.

This little scenic really seems to ooze tranquility for me. Maybe 'cause I took it. I have it up on the monitor at work and all I need is the sound of flowing water and it would be as if I was sitting up there next to the creek. Do you get that sense?

Thanks for looking!

Nice shot...love the smooth water...it feels cool (shady), some sun somewhere would have given me more of a sense of tranquillity (warmth), but this could do in a pinch - could you add some bird song to the water sound effects

It must have been very still - no wind - I've tried this effect and have ended up with blurry wind blown leaves...

Hey Cory nice flowing water, but the water looks a bit brown over here???

Hey Cory,

Yeah, I've missed your posts in ESS, and as Dan mentioned, it's been quiet around here. Glad your back.

Gotta be straight here. I think the composition is just a bit out of balance. I like the cascade and there's enough of the green leaves to know that it was purposeful, but the boulders on top really make this "heavy" at the top and there's just not enough of the pine trunk (yellow pine?) that I either want to see more, or none at all.

It's not a bad shot by any stretch, just doesn't come together comfortably for me. But I will tell you that it does make me want to get to the mountains!

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Eric: the brown you're seeing might be due to the reddish brown rock that was just below the surface.
Lon: thanks for the straight-up review. They can't work for everyone.
Hopefully I can post more after June is over with. I've got a project at work that is due July1 so I'll be working the overtime thing starting tomorrow 'til then. :frown: After that thought should be smooth sailing.
I'm looking forward to when we all can meet up on this side of the hill in the fall!!

Michie: funny you mentioned the lack of wind. It was actually a bit gusty here and there, but managed to shoot this with and without the wind.

For me the water's not brown...

The comp is missing a little something, but is nice.

To change viewpoint a little, cropping out the top might help balance the photo, say cut 1/2 of the middle rock. It gives total focus on the water, which has enough texture to be a standalone subject. Still keeps leaves and tree, but with less omnipresence so the tilted tree makes the pic less off balance.

Cory, it seems bland to me, no punch, the trunk of the tree dosen't do much for me either. A little different lighting, cropped a little tighter...might make a big difference in the final image. Of course that's just my opinion, and they're a dime a dozen.
