July 4 trip suggestions?

So, I'm getting a nice present for July 4th. My wife is flying back to visit our families in Ohio, and taking both young 'uns with her, so I've got a few days to myself.

Trying to figure out where to go. Last time this happened, a couple years ago, I backpacked into Missouri Lakes and spent a few days there hiking and shooting. Very nice.

I'd be up for the same thing again this time, spending about 3-4 days in the backcountry, with lots to shoot. This would be nice, because I might be able to drive the gas-sipping Jetta to a trailhead.

Of course, I'd also like to hit a few different places, too, so maybe I bring the gas-guzzling Explorer, and drive around the state for a few days. Not really sure.

But if I get some good suggestions here, that might help me make up my mind. What do you guys think?

I like the Lake City/Ouray/Silverton area for July 4 (great small-town 1950's type of celebration in Lake City!)...lots to see - American Basin, several 14ers, Engineer and Cinammon Passes, ghost towns. Lot of good backpacking, too.

Might be a bit early for the wildflowers though - I think they usually peak around 2nd or 3rd week of July.

For late June/early July here are the areas on my short list:

1. The Three Apostles from Harrison Flat. Check out this recent thread and photos:

2. Lake Isabelle - should be blooming by July 4. I went last year about the same time. There still may be some snow on the trail.
3. Lake Marie and Medicine Bow, Wyoming.
