Ruby-Throated Humming Bird
A female Ruby-throated Humming Bird (Archilochus colubris) I posted my effort with one of these fascinating birds June 06. I feel that this one is an improvement or am I kiding myself? I know I still have some way to go. I used a flash as per previous advice but still the challenge is there.

Kansas feeding station 06/07 a kaleidoscope of colour.

Canon 350D tripod ISO 400 226mm f/5.6 1/800 sec

Comments and Critique please

Thanks

Hello Barry
You have certainly chosen a most difficult subject.
I think that a major problem with this image is the vertical line just in front of the beak, with it being the same colour as the bird it becomes very distracting and would be difficult to clone out. A little work in PS curves to lighten it more and increase contrast would help, and I think it needs a dose of noise reduction.
Other than that, it is a good effort at a difficult little subject.
Best wishes

Good effort, the offending line does not bother me much but the shot does seem a bit flat and Phillip's suggestions should improve the image no end.

The major plus of hummingbirds is their iridescence, which unfortunately you have failed to show to its full effect. Philip's advice might do the trick. Nice try. :toast: :toast:
