Short Eared Owl
Well finally back on line having moved house - it's only taken 6 weeks to get reconnected :frown:

Been out and about with the camera in Scotland and Ireland since then.

This wild SEO was taken in the Outer Hebrides from the car. It is at minimum focusing distance so no amount of aperture was going to give enough DOF to get the tail in sharp focus. It was also late in the evening so light, whilst soft, was dropping.

I have cloned a small bit of barb wire out at the base of the image.

500mm/BB
125'/400ASA/F4
FF/USM(150,1,1)*3/S&H and a wee bit of Sat

PS for those that frequent the main Avian forum, yes, Dave Kjaer was sitting in the back seat - doing an excellent job of spotting SEO's .

Wow, I would be thrilled to bits to get an owl like that in my site and so close. Probably would lose my head completely and mess up the shot!
You did not and that is the difference!
Fine shot.

Nice shot Tom, glad you're finally back on-line. Nothing like having a back seat driver is there :jump::biggrin:

Charles - SEO is an abreviation for Short Eared Owl. (in case someone spots one shortly, LEO = long eared owl )

Sorry Charles..

Nick, Back Seat Spotters are a wonderful idea , for in this case I was doing about 50mph on our way home on a single track and was watching the road (obviously) and not the field when Dave said stop - otherwise I would have driven past what was potentially the best opportunity of the trip.

As for BT, well, as I have said before - I have been with them as my internet provider from about 94 and I reckon they are the best - it's just their procedures are a bit stupid i.e.

Operator - "Whats your Telephone Number?"
Customer - "01623 567890. Its a new property/installation"
Operator - "That number isn't valid, it isn't operational"
Customer - "H'mmm, well how come I am talking to you on it? Does that mean this call will be free?"

Very nice Tom, we apparently have SEO's near me, but the only raptors i've seen are tawney's and a Sparrow hawk!

As for BT i know what you mean, I had a call from a guy saying:

Engineer: I have a telephone Pole but i cant find your house.
ME: We already have a telephone pole and a telephone line.
Engineer: Really?
Me: yes my girlfriend is at home waiting for you to do a line test for ADSL...
Engineer: oh...
Me: you can call her if you wish...

Classic SEO shot Tom. I'm at a disadvantage as I am usually alone in the car so miss a lot.

I moved away from BT because they tended to keep changing the goalposts on my usage parameters and account. Consistant connection though without too many faults.
