Taken early yesterday morning. I'd sat for a couple of hours slowly working my way closer to where the swallows were most active. There are 4 swallows nesting in an old German gun emplacement and this one swallow I'd noticed had started to regularly land in this one spot on some camo netting placed on the bunker to show tourists how it once looked. Anyway after various unsuccesful attempts (whichever spot I picked to frame the swallow would fly on from the other side!) I got this one with my very last go.
Full frame, Canon 500L, 1.4x, 30D, Man.Exp., f10, 1/1250.
Excellent capture; focus and exposure are right on the money. You've also caught the bird in a great position and managed to obtain a very pleasing composition. I think you should be more than a little happy with this one; I know I would be.
I agree with Phil, it's a cracker - and I don't think the ring spoils the image!
Best wishes

Thanks guys, I had thought about trying to maybe clone out the ring but in the end decided to leave it in. Yes I'm really pleased with this one, I've only just started getting used to manually exposing as I just usually leave the camera on AV mode, so far lots of practice seems to be paying off
One of the downsides to our modern information obsessed society is the ever present "Bling" on birds legs. Scientists need to justify their continued employment and rightly so but in this day and age a microchip under the skin would be the better choice.
Still the best Swallow shot I've seen in a long time.

Superb shot in every way. I love it. Quite stunning. The blurring of the wings is soooo attractive.
