I'll be heading down to Medford for a wedding weekend after next, and on the way back up to Seattle I'd like to stop and check out at least one spot to shoot. I've heard that Crater Lake is decently close to Medford, so I plan on stopping by there on Saturday.

I was hoping someone could make a suggestion as to where else might be a good place to stop and check out on my way home. My initial thoughts were to head to the coast around Cannon Beach, as I've never photographed there and waterscapes are my favorite, or maybe to try and find the 'cauldron'. I was also thinking maybe the painted hills? I have to make up my mind on one place or the other, as I don't have as much time as I'd like to. Sometimes I wish the sun would rise and set more than once in a day...

Thanks,
Darien

Maybe Crater Lake for sunrise and Bandon (Coast) for sunset.

Painted Hills would be a bit out of the way. The Columbia Gorge is just barely out of the way and the waterfalls are prime right now.
If you go up the coast and hit Cannon Beach, be sure to also check out Ecola State Park, Fort Stevens State Park, and Astoria. There's a great Maritime Museum in Astoria if you're into nautical things.

Shore Acres State Park

Thanks for the advise guys. I realized after posting my message that Painted Hills is in the eastern part of the state, so that probably won't work out for me this time around. I am leaning more and more towards the coast now, since I'll most likely be on I-5. I have been to Ecola State Park before, and if I remember right it was awesome. I used to surf in the summer time at Oswald West State Park.

The Columbia Gorge is sounding very tempting. Any certain falls I should check out? Also, is there a specific place at Crater Lake that I should go to? I'm sure it's bigger than I think...

I live in the Medford area and I'd suggest Mt. Ashland. The wildflowers should be starting to pop up, great views of Mt. Shasta, lots of bird life, etc. Mt Ashland is about 15 miles south of Medford, right of I5. If you're interested, drop me an email and I'll give you a bit more info.

Crater Lake and the upper Rogue River area and / or Mt. Ashland are certainly much closer than the coast, so if you're under time constraints, I'd head there. The coast is a good hour west from the I-5 corridor in most locations, but if you're that far south, it might just be worth taking 199 south to Crescent City, then just going straight up 101 as far as you need to go. Certainly a helluva lot prettier than I-5.

Thanks for the info everyone. I will be sure to check out Mt. Ashland. Wildflowers sound fun, as I've never shot them before.
